Genome is defined as the
sum total of genetic material of an organism. It consists of biological
information in the form of DNA and RNA. The amount of DNA present in the genome
of a species in known as C-value (characteristics of each species). C-value
varies according to complexity of organism. In lower organism (Ex- yeast)
C-value increase as the complexity increases in the organism. But in eukaryotic
organism there is no correlation between C-value (in the form of DNA size) and
genomic complexity of organisms. This difference between genome size and genome
complexity is known as C-value paradox.
*** An increase in genome
size, number of genes and average size of individual genes results the increase
in the complexity of organism. …………………………….
